To celebrate Adult Learners’ Week, we caught up with level 3 learning mentor apprentice, Donna Sutton, who is employed at Waggly Tails Grooming, in Gloucestershire.

Donna says, “I was keen to begin a learning mentor apprenticeship because I knew it would benefit my role mentoring staff and work experience students. I have developed my knowledge of creating individual learning plans, recognising different learning styles and providing constructive feedback to staff.

As part of my apprenticeship, I have completed my Functional Skills ICT Level 2 qualification. This was quite challenging for me as I had not used a computer since I was at college. My Functional Skills tutor, Alicia, was amazing and so supportive. We worked through the criteria together and carried out mock exams in preparation. She ensured I felt confident before sitting the exam. My knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint has also improved significantly.

My Trainer Coach, Kirsten, has been fantastic. Her sessions are well structured and easy to understand. She is so supportive and always has a positive approach to learning. Her feedback on my assignments are well detailed and she always gives me the opportunity to ask questions.”

Donna recently entered her End Point Assessment (EPA) and achieved a distinction – What a fantastic result!!! Well done Donna!
