We are fortunate to work with some of the top equine employers in the country, including Kingwood Thoroughbreds Ltd, a premier backing, pre-training and rehabilitation yard in Berkshire. As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2023, Paul Stenson discusses why he chose Haddon Training to support their staff.

Exciting new challenge

“I am Personal Assistant to Melanie Austin, the owner of Kingwood Thoroughbreds, but I also train staff and sometimes work on the yard. Melanie and I have known each other for 20+ years and have previously worked together. My background is mainly eventing and coaching so coming into the racing industry has been an exciting new challenge.”

Miles ahead practically and more employable

“Having managed one of the top equestrian colleges in the UK, it became clear that learners weren’t always up to industry standard when it came to their practical skills. Having crossed paths with Haddon Training learners while at the college, it was very evident that they were miles ahead practically and more employable.”

Experience to share with students

“Having on the job learning from an experienced team allows learners to progress quicker at a higher standard. At Kingwood Thoroughbreds we have a varied team who have excelled in different disciplines and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with students.

Having known about Haddon Training and seeing the results that they produce, made it an easy decision choose them to support us and our apprentices through their career.

It’s rewarding to help shape someone’s future and provide them the best possible education to progress in an exciting and challenging industry. We teach our staff that we all make mistakes and that’s ok, it’s how we learn from them that matters.”
