Meet Level 2 Equine Groom apprentice, Kacie

Meet Kacie, a dedicated Level 2 Equine Groom apprentice at Chadwells Stud who has turned a childhood love of horses into a growing career. Through her apprenticeship, Kacie has gained hands-on experience in breeding, foal care, and daily horse management, all while building the skills and confidence to pursue her long-term ambitions in the equine industry.

What inspired you to pursue a career working with horses?

I’ve loved horses from a very young age. My mum took me to my first riding lesson when I was eight, and from that day it became weekly. I then started a part-time job at Chadwells Stud, and after seeing the work Julia (Owner of Chadwells Stud) did, I knew I wanted to turn my passion for horses into a full-time career.

What aspects of your Level 2 Equine Groom qualification have you enjoyed the most and working at Chadwells Stud?

I have enjoyed learning all about the foals and the process of how foaling works. I’ve also loved expanding my knowledge of how horses are cared for on a day-to-day basis. Even though I started with some basic understanding, this experience has helped me grow and learn so much more.

What achievement are you most proud of to date?

I’m most proud of how confident I’ve become in handling young stock. I’ve also grown a lot in my knowledge and confidence when it comes to working horses on the ground.

What has your experience been like as an apprentice with Haddon Training?

My experience has been amazing. My Trainer Coach, Sarah, has been incredibly helpful and supportive throughout my sessions. She has tailored the training to suit the way I learn best, which has really helped me progress.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I hope to go on to complete my Level 3 Senior Equine Groom qualification. My goal is to become a manager and groom. I’d also love to get more involved in the breeding side of the industry and eventually own my own stallions and mares so I can breed my own horses.
