Our Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AESE) programme is a further education option that helps young showjumping, eventing, and dressage athletes reach their full potential. AESE is run in proud partnership with British Showjumping and British Eventing and is recognised as part of British Equestrian’s Performance Pathway.
We recently spoke to Emily, a showjumper who’s thriving in our Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AESE) programme. Emily shares the impact AESE has had on her equestrian journey, how mentorship from the expert AESE coaches has boosted her performance and how she’s built lasting friendships with fellow riders.
What inspired you to apply and take part in AESE?
I saw it as a fantastic opportunity to take the next step as an athlete and develop myself not only in riding but also in my understanding of the sport. Additionally, I was looking for another path to explore while completing my A-levels, and this seemed like a great way to do that!
Can you describe a specific moment or experience during the AESE programme that has helped your development?
I have loved the lectures / talks from other professionals in the sport which I’ve learnt so much from.
Which aspect of the programme have you enjoyed the most?
I have enjoyed connecting with other athletes from all three disciplines and creating countless memories and great friendships in the sport. The learning experience has also been incredible, as I’ve gained so much knowledge from some of the best in the field and who are always there to help when needed!
