Apprenticeships are are about more than achieving a qualification; our learners receive fantastic support and guidance from their employer and Trainer Coach to also gain confidence in their abilities and develop their wider life skills.

It’s exciting to watch our learner’s progress while completing an apprenticeship with us, so it was great to catch up with the owners of Animal Antiks, Nick and Sarah, who currently employ level 3 animal care apprentice, Thomas Rae.

Thomas is a keen apprentice who has also previously achieved a distinction in a level 2 animal care apprenticeship with the support of the team at Animal Antiks and his Trainer Coach, Frankie Roberts.

Sarah commented;

“Thomas is a brilliant addition to our team and always strives to complete his work to a very high standard.

At Animal Antiks, we operate an alternative provision for children and adults who experience various challenges, including physical and mental health difficulties, difficulties accessing mainstream education or social isolation. Our aim is to open hearts, unlock minds and inspire people.

Our approach is to create a safe and calm environment where our learners are involved in a variety of activities around animal care, animal enrichment, gardening, craft, bushcraft and other outdoor projects. This helps to reduce anxieties, increase confidence and build life and social skills, all while being surrounded by nature.

The enthusiasm and fresh outlook we receive from our apprentices is great for team morale. We develop our learners into fantastic, valued members of the team who often stay with us long after their qualifications have finished.

As well as achieving an incredible qualification, learners also achieve many personal accomplishments too, including growing confidence and employability skills, providing a well-rounded learning experience.

Thomas is a superb example of the power of apprenticeship training.”

Nick added;

“We encourage young people to gain their knowledge and experience in an environment where they feel comfortable, to give them the best grounding in the start of their future career.

We have a great relationship with Haddon Training and it has worked well for us having a consistent Trainer Coach, Frankie Roberts, who understands the demands of the ever-growing business and the complex needs of our learners.

Haddon Training has helped to increase our learner’s confidence, communication skills and general employability skills. The nature of the work-based qualification really suits our learners, and we are huge advocates of that.”

Not only has he progressed professionally but also personally; his confidence has grown considerable amounts giving him a super grounding to start his career.  I’m also really proud of all the learners at Animal Antiks and the partnership that has been built over the past few years.”
