We proudly offer BHS Stages 2-4 in Wales alongside our range of equine and animal care apprenticeships.
These qualifications are ideal for those who enjoy caring for and managing the welfare of horses.
Training for BHS assessments includes a mix of practical training and practice, workshops, events and revision or study at home with a BHS Approved Centre. When ready, the learner completes an assessment day, which focuses primarily on observation of the learner completing practical tasks, discussion of the tasks performed and discussion of related topics.
The stages are outlined here:
BHS Stage 2 provides an in-depth foundation knowledge and understanding of equine care and management, and the initial principles of teaching. This career certificate demonstrates the foundation skills to work in the industry as a groom with limited supervision.
BHS Stage 3 demonstrates an ability to work in the industry, taking higher responsibility for the day-to-day running of the yard and support and management of competition horses. This career certificate demonstrates the practical skills and knowledge to support the management of the yard.
BHS Stage 4 celebrates the development of knowledge in horse care and management, covering business and breeding units. This career certificate demonstrates the experience and skills required to independently train individuals and groups of riders, with sound practical business knowledge and the ability to take responsibility for an equestrian establishment or work as an effective freelance coach.
All stages provide you with a range of specialist practical and theoretical skills as well as the knowledge in horse care management.
